ولد في مدينة خانقين بمحافظة ديالى بالعراق عام 1946م / بدأ رحلته مع الخط العربي عندما التقى بالخطاط الشهير هاشم البغدادي الذي اثنى على أعماله و شجعه على الاستمرار/ أسس مدرسة جديدة في الخط العربي وتميزت بإخراج الخط العربي من القالب التقليدي إلى التشكيل و الحداثة/ قام بتعليم الخط العربي إلى الطلاب من مختلف أنحاء العالم العربي/ حصل على إجازة في الخط الفارسي من الخطاط الإيراني زارين خط / أقام 34 معرض فني وله جناح يحتوي على 300 عمل في مركز فني كبير / سرقت أعماله خلال أحداث 2003/ أصدر عدة مؤلفات في فن الخط العربي منها قواعد خط النستعليق، جماليات الخط العربي، ميزان الخط العربي و غيرها / توفي في بغداد ودفن في مسقط رأسه خانقين عام2007.
was born in the province of diyala, Iraq in year 1946 /He started his journey with Arabic calligraphy in 1963 when he met the famous calligrapher (Hashim AL-Baghdadi) whom he was impressed with AL-Zahawi’s works and encouraged him to continue/ He obtained a license in Taaliq (Farsi) skript by persian calligrapher (Zirean-KHat)/He is known by his modern technique and style in writing Arabic calligraphy/ His school excelled in bringing the old-fashioned calligraphy into more modernized letters through. He was an author of several books stranslated as: “the foundation of KHaat AL-Taaliq (farsi)”/ “the beauty of Arabic calligraphy”/ “the balance of Arabic calligraphy” and more/ His most famous art pieces were stolen from Iraq when the war started in 2003/ In the year 1427 hijri, Khalil AL-Zahawi passed away in Baghdad, Iraq and buried in his hometown Khanaqin, diyala in 2007.
